Ephesians 5:14-21 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Here in these verse lie the truths of being thankful. We need to watchful, do not slacken up…promise Jesus will light our way, He is our light. We need to walk honestly and truthfully before man and God. We need to make good use of our time everyday to what the Lor has blessed us with. We need to know the will of God for our lives…They are here in the next few verses: Don’t go to extremes to please the Lord, don’t please the flesh, but be continually filled, restored day by day, in the Spirit. Speak to one another and yourself in encouraging ways…Speack truth in love, peace, joy, mercy, longsuffering…in love. This will please the heart of the Lord and when His heart is pleased (happy, content) so will ours be. We need to give thanks all the time in what so ever state I may be….This is for God’s sake. And we are to do all things in the name of or for Jesus. The next one is a biggy!!!! Submitting, giving ones self to another completely. This is not talking about spouse to spouse, but to one another. We are to give ourselves to one another because of the reverence and awe we have for God. As we submit and give ourselves to one another we are submitting to the Lord. In doing these things we as are asked in these verses we will find ourselves being thankful. Why or How???? As we do these we will find our eyes, focus and a life attitude of one of a servant. Jesus was a servant to us. Servitude will bring a gratitude of heart like we have never known. To serve one another is a joy. Joy breeds thankfulness.
I pray and trust you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV) 16 Rejoice evermore.(I praise and thank the Lord daily for His grace and hope revealed to me through His Word and Spirit. I also am grateful for all of you that have sat with me through the past months and listened to my joys as well as my sorrow and fears. Then, trusting God to raise me from that to His joy.)
17 Pray without ceasing. (My desire is to pray for this blog each day and for all those that read any post. I trust God speaks to your hearts and shows you just what you might need as you read. I am grateful for all of you who pray for me as you have read the posts. Prayer is one of our greatest tools God has given us to help others and bring them before God’s throne of grace in their time of need…any need. It is a wonderful gift, because it is something we go to the Lord for, for someone elses benefit. Amen!)
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (To be thankful is an awesome thing. Giving thanks is the beginning of great things, God’s hand begins to work in the act of thanks. Being thankful gives God permission to continue to do His work in my life and others. This is also God’s will, desire, for us to do. You want to know what the will of the Lord is, begin to be thankful and a whole new realm of the Lord and His character will be revealed and opened to you and me.)
Once again I thank the Lord for the honor and privilege to share my thoughts, life and Jesus with you. I also thank you the reader for stopping by, sitting a spell and chatting with me at pinchofgrace. Awesome blessing and privilege of the Lord.
It is only by God’s wonderful grace and His unending hope I able to do this blog. Blessings to you.
A great debt of thanks falls short of my gratitude for our troops.
We are looking at another holiday tomorrow. Memorial Day. It is a day that many will spend picnicking, playing and enjoying an extra day off from work. There is nothing wrong with spending your extra day off in this manner, with family and friends as many do. But many have forgotten what this day represents to us as Americans.
I am want us to re-open our eyes and hearts to why we celebrate Memorial Day.
I remember a few years ago watching television and seeing this incident take place, as the picture portrays. I remember being awestruck at the elderlyveteran gentleman walking up to this man coming home from over seas. He was coming home because of injuries he had sustained in the line of battle and he could no longer serve at his post. I recall the media telling us about those injuries and how great his struggles were. He was also facing the readjustments he was making with a new “limb” and the loss of his eye, very sobering to think about.
But what spoke to my heart the most was watching this elderly veteran go and embrace this soldier that had come home. A veteran “thanking” a fellow soldier.
This elderly veteran KNEW what this man had sacrificed. He KNEW what it was to put his life on the line for what he believed. He KNEW the struggles that this man endured and was going to face. This embrace was far more than that of a simple “thank you”, but one of great gratitude, love and compassion for a fellow soldier that gave himself in the line of duty, responsibility and belief.
This was a very moving moment that was shared and televised throughout our nation. I can not imagine the love and compassion that flowed through this older soldier for the younger one coming home. This man wept for his new comrade and friend. They had never met before, so why the emotion. He had been there. He had experienced what the younger man had. He also knew what it took to lay ones life on the line for many. Thankful, yes, but much more. There was a gratitude of debt the elder was expressing to the younger. A debt was paid by this man giving of himself freely for others still at home in all their comfortable places.
There are other men and woman serving in our armed forces that have sacrificed limb and life for what we here at home take for granted. Our freedoms, and they are costly.
Over 2000 years ago there was one man that battled for each one of us for our freedom also. His death was not that we could live as we choose in this land we live, but in order that we may have a greater life. Isn’t that what our soldiers over seas are fighting for now, a greater life for us. Yes but here in our nice comfortable homes. There is nothing wrong with that, I am very grateful for what our men and woman are doing in keeping our land for many reasons.
But God sent His Son to a battlefield like no other will ever have to go to. A spiritual battlefield. A battlefield that He won victoriously over sin and death. He won the battle over satan so that we may have an abundant life in Christ. To walk and live in the gospel. To learn and know Christ so that we may live and reign with Him and with the Father. That is freedom from the terrors of this earth, now we have joy and peace in what we believe.
Hebrews 12:1-3 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
May God’s grace continually surround our men and woman of our armed forces and His hope be thier beacon each day.
